Caravan park facilities – what to expect when you arrive

If you re new to the world of caravans and are planning to make one your home, or holiday destination, then you might want to know what you can expect from a caravan park. Here are some general facilities found in caravan parks and standards to look out for when choosing a caravan site.
At the most basic level a caravan park and campsite should have a communal toilet block with hot and cold water basins and showers. Many parks choose to have larger sinks in one area of the block, or outside, where those camping in tents can wash dishes without venturing into the bathroom area.
Bathroom blocks should provide areas for women and men to wash and change separately and be cleaned regularly. They should also provide baby changing areas. Parks with touring caravans will also have a Chemical Disposal Point (CPD) for chemical toilet waste disposal.
Most parks that want to attract families will have an outdoor play area for children. Many caravan parks will have additional amenities such as a laundrette with coin operated machines. In some parks there are coin operated hairdryers in the ladies shower and change area, or power sockets for hairdryers and shavers in the toilet block. It s a good idea to check ahead for these facilities and plan accordingly.
Often a caravan park will have a small shop on site with basics should you run out. Essentials like milk, bread and butter, which may not last too well on your journey, could be bought on site to save you transporting goods. Some rural campsites use farm produce which gives you the opportunity to sample the local produce and enjoy good quality food for excellent value.
Finally, in more family orientated, or luxury parks, you could find anything from in indoor heated pool for all year fun, a restaurant and/or bar, kids club or spa facilities.
